Chemical Reagents Methyl Orange CAS 547-58-0 Biological Stains and Acid-base Indicators
Introduction:
Water-soluble eosin Y is a chemically synthesized acidic dye that dissociates into negatively charged anions in water and combines with positively charged cations of the amino groups of proteins to stain the cytoplasm. The cytoplasm, red blood cells, muscles, connective tissue, eosinophilic granules, etc. are stained in varying degrees of red or pink, forming a sharp contrast with the blue cell nucleus.
Uses:
Methyl orange is a commonly used acid-base indicator, a color-decolorizing indicator for strong reducing agents and strong oxidizing agents, a cytoplasm indicator, a histological contrast stain, and a pollen tube stain. The pH color change range is 3.1 (red)-4.4 (yellow), and it can be used to determine the alkalinity of most mineral acids, strong bases, and water. Methyl orange can be used for volumetric determination of tin (Sn2+ when hot, Chemicalbook). It is a color-decolorizing indicator for strong reducing agents (Ti3+, Cr2+) and strong oxidizing agents (chlorine, bromine). It can be used for spectrophotometric determination of chlorine, bromine, and bromide ions. It can be used to form a mixed indicator with sodium indigo disulfonate or bromocresol green to shorten the color change range and improve the sharpness of the color change. It is a redox indicator, such as used for potassium bromate titration of trivalent arsenic or antimony.
